People appreciate cannabis for numerous reasons: to help them relax, to ease inflammation, to improve the taste of food, to make movies more enjoyable – the list goes on. But sometimes we want to enjoy the subtle benefits of THC without getting too baked to operate. Sounds nice, right? We suggest giving microdosing a chance.
What is Microdosing?
Microdosing is a technique that involves taking very small amounts of cannabis on a regular schedule. The point of microdosing is to find your body’s THC sweet spot: you do this by only taking enough THC to barely perceive the effects on your mind and body without getting too intoxicated. Microdosing helps people get the light, therapeutic effects of cannabis without achieving a heavy high. People often microdose to help manage the symptoms of anxiety, chronic pain, stress, ADHD, inflammation, and indigestion.
Why Should I Try Microdosing?
Microdosing is a great way to better understand the effects of cannabis on your body, and it’s an awesome soft introduction for people new to cannabis. This helps people find the sweet spot of dosage that works best for their mind and body. But microdosing is also great for achieving a clear high that makes life a bit more enjoyable without getting so intoxicated that it interferes with being social or productive.
Cannabis Edible Microdosing Schedule
Before you begin microdosing, purchase edibles that measure between 1 – 10 milligrams of THC and are easy to break apart or dose. Tinctures are great for microdosing because you can measure out exactly how many miligrams you’d like to take, and there are even lower dosage edibles designed for this purpose too.
*Disclaimer: every body is different! If you are already a seasoned cannabis user, start with a dose that feels right for you and work your way up from there. For new users, we recommend the schedule below.
To start, dose your edibles into 2mg servings and take one serving (2 mg) of cannabis in the first hour. After two hours has passed, take another 2 mg. After the fourth hour has passed, take another 2 mg. Continue this process until you’ve found your sweet spot, add up the totals to discover the right measurement of edible THC that works for your body.
9 am – 2 mg of THC
11 am – 2 mg of THC
1 pm – 2 mg of THC
If you don’t feel any therapeutic effects at this dosage, then continue to add 1 mg of THC every hour until you’ve established the right therapeutic range that works for you. If you’re a more experienced user, you can try this same schedule with 5 mg servings to see stronger results.
Can I Microdose Cannabis by Smoking?
You can (and should) enjoy cannabis in a way that positively affects your body, but smoking is actually not the best way to microdose cannabis. That’s because microdosing requires the user to carefully measure each dosage before ingestion, and smoking is nearly impossible to perfectly measure. Additionally, a single toke will take some users far beyond their THC perceptible threshold and will get them instantly high. While we enjoy getting stoned and relaxing, the point of microdosing isn’t to get super high; the point is to receive the therapeutic benefits of cannabis without getting too blazed.
Build a Microdosing Log
Taking notes is the last thing that most of us want to do while relaxing with our favorite strain. But, as you begin your new microdosing regiment, it’s important to outline a schedule and give yourself a chance to take notes on how you feel after each edible serving of THC. After you take each microdose, wait 30-45 minutes and then answer these questions in a simple notebook:
1 – What is my pain level?
2 – How comfortable and calm am I?
3 – Can I have a conversation with someone else?
4 – On a scale of 1 – 10, how happy am I?
5 – Can I complete some basic work-related tasks?
By answering these questions at different dosage intervals, you can begin to track your progress and identify the therapeutic range of microdosage that works for you.
